There are now only days to go until March 29th, the official announcement date of the Samsung Galaxy S8. This much awaited phone has been causing excitement all over the internet, twitter and other forums are full of information from leaks and official sources – but what do we really know about the Samsung Galaxy S8? The truth is that we don’t ‘know’ a huge amount yet, but a lot of the information that is around has come from sources that have proven themselves reliable in the past.
It has been over year since the release of the Galaxy S8 predecessor, Samsung’s current flagship model – the Galaxy S7. The release of the Galaxy S7 was a massive success; with over 25 million units sold in the first ten weeks it was on the market. If Samsung want to stay ahead of the competition they are going to have to release a seriously impressive phone with the Galaxy S8.
One of most anticipated features of the Samsung Galaxy S8 is the display. It is expected to have full 4K (2160×3840) capabilities. This is a big step up from its predecessor which only featured a QHD (2560×1440) display. Not only is the display resolution rumoured to be better, it’s also going to be bigger. The standard 5.1inch display on the previous models, the S7 and the S6 is expected to be increased to a massive 5.8inch Super AMOLED display. With the increase in 4K videos being released, and the large screen – watching videos on the Samsung Galaxy S8 will be an entirely new experience.
It’s not all about the display. Samsung rarely disappoint when it comes to adding features to their phones. The Galaxy S8 is no exception to this. Security features such as iris scanning and facial recognition are supposedly built into the device. The device is also going to be water and dust resistant to some extent, which means we might not have to wait for the ‘Active’ model to be released. The phone is also reportedly going to keep its Micro SD card slot, something had been worrying people since Android stopped supporting file transfers to the medium.
Until the announcement we can’t know for sure, but we expect all of the rumoured features are most likely true. We are hoping that we can be pleasantly surprised by Samsung at some of the features that haven’t been leaked yet. The Samsung Galaxy S8 is expected to be released with prices starting at 799 Euros.
